Medical
Our Medical Benefits Abroad (MBA) program lets you choose medical coverage based on the international travel requirements of your company:

  • Groups with a total of 249 weeks or less of travel per year for any number of travelers
  • Groups with a total of 250 weeks or more of travel per year for any number of travelers

The 249 weeks or less program covers all major, necessary medical expenses:

  • Medical or surgical care and treatment provided by a physician as the result of an injury or illness incurred while traveling on an approved international business trip
  • Hospital room and board charges and intensive care unit charges, subject to a maximum based on the program selected
  • All medically necessary and/or required surgical services and supplies while confined in a hospital
  • Outpatient medical care expenses provided by a hospital or clinic
  • Professional, local ambulance service

Coverage is non-occupational and is on a calendar year basis. The full premium is due at the inception of the policy along with the application.

Travel Locator Service

In response to the ever-changing needs of employers, we have added a powerful new tool to help manage risk. Our Travel Locator Service is powered by International SOS, the world’s foremost medical and travel management company. Through use of this exclusive interactive system, accessing critical traveler information is at your fingertips.

Through use of a corporate travel reservation service, you are able to merge current global travel data with International SOS’s global medical and security intelligence and be assured that you’re on top of worldwide situations, wherever your employees travel.

Your booking system may be a single agency where employees book their travel reservations. It may also be a combination of an online booking self-booking tool and/or a traditional travel agency. (Globally, you may have multiple agencies.)

Personal Locator Service

If your company does not use a centralized travel booking system, we offer a solution called Personal Locator Service. With this solution, your HR administrator or the travelers themselves enter travel data manually into the International SOS system. Although this method is not as feature laden as the automated Travel Locator Service, it allows HR users to track employees and locate them efficiently via an automated reporting system

Exclusions

  • Charges for routine physical examinations unless required because of illness
  • Routine dental care
  • Routine cosmetic treatment or surgery
  • Mental illness or nervous disorders
  • Medical expenses related to pregnancy unless the expenses are incurred as a result of an emergency, then a maximum benefit of $2,000 will apply per pregnancy
  • Care provided to a newborn child, including hospital nursery expenses
  • Expenses incurred during holiday travel when not in conjunction with a business trip
  • Intentionally self-inflicted injuries, suicide or any attempted threat, while sane or insane
  • War or any act of war, whether declared or undeclared, riot, civil commotion, or police action

250 Weeks or More Programs

MBA programs for groups with 250 weeks or more of travel are customized to meet your needs.

Pricing is completed by CIGNA.

Pre-existing Conditions

In the 90-day period before travel on assignment, these expenses will not be covered under the MBA program:

  • Medical charges incurred
  • Medical treatment
  • Drugs or medicine prescribed for an illness or injury

Both pre-existing condition exclusion limitations and normal health care benefits apply each time an employee travels on an approved international business trip.
